Appointment Types
The Appointment Types section reflects the visit types available in your EMR.
In most cases, this section is automatically populated through your EMR integration, so there’s little manual setup required.
How It Works
Each appointment type in Second Door is tied directly to a corresponding record in your EMR. This includes details like name, duration, and associated providers.
If updates are made in your EMR—such as changing a visit length or renaming a type—those changes sync automatically into Second Door.
Because of this, appointment types are typically managed in your EMR, not here.
Connection to Services
Appointment types are connected to services within Second Door. This relationship helps determine how patients can book and what options are available based on provider, location, and workflow rules.
In practice, this means:
-
appointment types define what the visit is
-
services define how and where it can be booked
This connection is what powers scheduling logic across the platform.
How It’s Used
Most teams don’t interact with this section frequently. Instead, it works in the background to ensure that scheduling stays aligned with your EMR and reflects your real-world operations. You can audit and review connection details here, though!
Practical Notes
It’s uncommon to manually add new appointment types in Second Door. If something is missing or needs to be updated, it’s usually best to make that change in your EMR so it stays consistent across systems.
