Cancel Reasons

The Cancel Reasons section reflects the reasons used to document why appointments are canceled or not completed.

These are typically synced from your EMR and are used to categorize cancellations consistently across your organization.

How It Works

Each cancel reason in Second Door corresponds directly to a record in your EMR. This includes the name of the reason and any identifiers associated with it.

Because of this connection, cancel reasons are usually managed in your EMR and passed through to Second Door automatically.

No-Show & Short-Term Flags

Some cancel reasons include flags that help categorize the type of cancellation:

  • No-Show identifies missed appointments

  • Short-Term typically reflects late cancellations or last-minute changes

These flags are tied to how the reason is defined in your EMR and help standardize reporting and classification.

How It’s Used

Today, cancel reasons are primarily used for documentation and reporting. They help teams understand why appointments aren’t completed and provide consistency across locations and staff.

Practical Notes

Cancel reasons are not commonly edited within Second Door. If updates are needed, they should typically be made in your EMR to ensure consistency across systems.
