Changes to analytics and advertising tracking on Second Door pages

Why Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager tags are being replaced with consent-based, server-side conversion tracking—and how to set up the new Google Ads integration.

We're making two changes to how analytics and advertising tracking works on Second Door–hosted patient-facing pages (signup and intake). This article explains what's changing, why, and what you need to do.

Why we're making this change

Healthcare intake pages have become a major target for privacy litigation over tracking technologies—for example, wiretapping and "pixel" claims under laws like California's CIPA. To better protect your patients and your practice, we're strengthening how analytics and advertising work on Second Door–hosted pages.

Change 1: Consent-based tracking (live now)

Any analytics or advertising tags on your Second Door–hosted signup and intake pages now load only after a patient gives explicit consent. Nothing fires before the patient chooses, and declining doesn't change how the pages work.

This is already live—no action is needed on your end.

Change 2: Server-side conversion tracking replaces hosted tags (effective 8/21)

On August 21st we're removing the ability to host Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics tags directly on Second Door pages.

In their place, we're introducing a simpler, more secure conversion-tracking approach that reports conversions to your Google Ads account server-to-server—without loading third-party tracking scripts in your patients' browsers. You keep the conversion measurement you rely on, with materially less privacy risk.

What this means for you

  • Google Ads conversion tracking is fully supported through the new method. Connect your Google Ads account and choose which events count as conversions in Settings → Ads Tracking. We're happy to help you set it up.
  • Other tags added through GTM (for example, Meta/Facebook, LinkedIn, or custom scripts) will no longer run on hosted pages after the cutover. If you rely on any of these, contact us at support@seconddoor.app and we'll walk through your options.
  • Your signup funnel and your patients' experience are unchanged.

Timeline

How to set up the new conversion tracking

  1. Go to Settings → Ads Tracking.
  2. Click Connect Google Ads and sign in with an account that has access to your Google Ads manager.
  3. Select your ads account, then choose existing conversion events or create new ones (for example: lead created, scheduled, arrived).
  4. Save. Conversion events will be sent automatically as leads move through your funnel, and you can review delivery under Show logs.
